The Themes/Symbols
The theme i see the most through out this book is that love triumphs all. I mean the book title says the game of love and death. The most evidence i have seen would be the very first page of the book(p.g. 1) where loves and death are discussing something about these two babies they had and love said "There was something about him." Another symbol would be how both characters relate each other with music whether it would be through playing the music or singing the music. Over the story just revolved around two people and their joy and love for music that brings them closer and closer together. |
The BookThe story goes kinda like Romeo and Juliet, but there is two different people this time. The two are named Henry and Flora who were part of this so called "game" that both love and death had made bets where death always won. The story start with them as babies, when love death decided that these two of the next would be the part of the next game. The way the game works is that the two people in the game must confess that they love each other and they must stay together before death comes at a certain point to take their souls or life away from them. Love had found something special about these two. Either way these two, Henry and Flora, they have multiple encounters, but they don't realize that they had been placed under a curse. Henry who is seven-teen and white grew up with no parents instead he lives with his best friend in the entire world Ethan who comes from a rich family. Flora however is an African American who is also seven-teen,m but around this time segregation was still kinda around, more like people didn't like the colored. She too also grew up with no mother or father except she still had one person left, her Grandmother. One day Henry decides to teach Ethan's little sister how to ride a bike and as soon as she starts biking on her own she crashes right into Flora. Talk about a fateful encounter.
